Frequently Asked Questions

  • The first step is to buy your ticket from Eventfinda! A few days before the event, we'll email you an itinerary with a map showing where the houses are and providing descriptions of each one. You have the freedom to explore all the houses, or just the ones you choose, using your own vehicle.

  • A week before the event, we'll send you your itinerary. You can choose to print it out or use the digital copy to guide your journey.  Make sure to bring your ticket (either printed or on your smartphone) with you on the day to the first house. This will then be exchanged for a 'tag' that you can then use to enter all the other homes.

  • For your first house visit, bring either a printed copy or show your Eventfinda Tour ticket on your smartphone to the volunteers at the home's entrance. They'll then scan it and give you a special 'tag' to enter the other homes.

  • This year we're exploring amazing coastal properties along the Tutukākā Coast, and as you would expect, with coastal properties comes stunning views, but also in some cases steeper entranceways and driveways. We encourage you to allow plenty of time for travel between homes, as some visits will require a short walk from the parking area, and most importantly, comfortable (and sturdy!) footwear.

  • Every home will be different, and we will have signage and volunteers to show you where to park. In some cases, we will add to the adventure with shuttle vans to transport you to homes where access is more challenging. Please allow plenty of time between homes for travel and parking.

  • To protect the privacy of our home owners, photography is not permitted during the tour. Some visitors bring a notebook and pen to jot down ideas they find inspiring.

  • A number of the homes have steps, stairs, and sometimes uneven ground or gravel paths, which may prove difficult for someone with limited mobility. Because we're exploring coastal homes this year, some of them also have relatively steep paths and driveways. We do our best to keep the experience safe and we will leave it up to you to decide if this is the right event for you.

  • We'll be sending you email updates once you've purchased your ticket, and we also encourage you to follow us on Facebook and join the Facebook event for more regular updates, including sneak peeks of some of the homes. If you have any questions, you're welcome to contact us via email at giveforgoodwhangarei@gmail.com.

  • All proceeds from the tour go directly back to North Haven Hospice. Here's how it has made a difference:

    • In 2022, proceeds were used to purchase a highly sophisticated call system so all inpatients could call a nurse or support at any time, day or night, without leaving their bed. Money raised was also used for specialist staff training for Hospice staff.

    • In 2009, proceeds paid off a van used to deliver medical equipment to patients' homes.

    • The 2011 tour funds purchased a car for community nursing staff.

    • Proceeds from the 2013 tour revamped the Rose Garden into a peaceful retreat for patients and their families.

    • Funds from the 2015 tour replaced furnishings and awnings for patient rooms.

    • The 2017 House Tour proceeds helped replace carpeting at North Haven Hospice.

  • We enforce a strict 'no children' policy, even if they are on their best behaviour. Our top priority is ensuring the security of the generous home owners' properties. Consider this a great opportunity to book in a babysitter and have some much needed adult time!
